The man lifted the boy up and the latter perched happily on the former’s shoulders.
“When you grow up, I too will sit on your shoulders like this”, said the man.
The boy giggled.
“Will you carry me on your shoulders when I’m old?”
“Yes father”, replied the child.
“Are you sure?”
“Yes father! Lift me higher and catch me!” the boy said in excitement.
The man smiled as he fulfilled his son’s wish.

The clocks ticked hours into days and days into years for the boy and the man until the day came when the man’s soul bade farewell to his body. The son was the lead pallbearer. As he carried the weight of his father, he whispered to the casket:
“I’ve kept my word father!”
And with tears running down his face, the son realized that the promise had been fulfilled. The debt had been paid.
