A Wise Nation

Nawaz Sharif has recently said that the people of Punjab voted wisely as they brought a much more experienced political party into power i.e. PML(N). He further said that the people of Khayber Pukhtoon Khwa made an emotional decision.
Though I cannot completely disagree with what Mr.Nawaz has said as his party is in fact more experienced. But I couldn’t comprehend his statement until I realized that although he used the term “wisdom” yet it actually meant something else. Suddenly it became clear to me that to understand him, one has to decipher his statements under the light of his own wisdom.
When he sent mixed signals to U.S.A by asking to stop drone strikes but then immediately said that he wants better relationship between the two countries, it meant that drone strikes are a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty, but we won’t mind as long as we keep getting the money. When he said that PML(N) will prove itself to be a business friendly party , he meant that they have no intentions of bringing any kind of reforms, whether it be tax reforms or reforms to protect the free market and small investors. When he said that his brother’s promise to end the load shedding was an emotional statement, he meant that he lied and now we should suck it up.

What is even more saddening is that the leaders represent their people, so whatever he and his party do is actually the will of the people. We as a nation have become corrupt, we don’t want to change our ways. We’re just living in denial and procrastinating and we haven’t yet realized that the change is inevitable and a time will come when we won’t have any other choice but to not only accept it but also to work towards making it happen.
P.S: I am in no way implying that Punjabis are more corrupt that Pashtoons as there were several other factors involved which decided the results of the elections.
