Rita Hayworth vs Marilyn Monroe

The Backdrop

Being an advocate of classics, I feel starved as I see the state of today’s fashion, film and music industries. The Bryan Adams, Coldplays and Didos have been replaced by the *gulp* Biebers, One Directions and Nicki Minajs. Where we had The Shawshank Redemptions and Star Wars, we have The Silver Linings Playbooks (Yes, I hated it) and Iron Mans (Or should I say ‘Iron Men’? Regardless, Robert Downey’s cockiness fails to impress me one bit). The fashion sense once safe in the hands of the Marilyn Monroes now lies trampling under the feet of the Kim Kardishians.

After seeing Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Liz and Dick’ a few days back, I felt the urge to grab my laptop, don my safe-behind-a-computer-screen armor and blast the wretched woman to smithereens with my words. How it is possible to even imagine Lindsay Lohan portraying the legendary Elizabeth Taylor, I can never quiet comprehend. The absurdity of the comparison actually made me feel sorry for Lohan; you don’t compare two elements as many classes apart as the average modern actress and a queen of Hollywood. The reason being singular; there simply IS no comparison.

In the first of the ‘Head to head’ series, I would take out time to compare two actually comparable individuals; both received worldwide fame and success, both approximately belong to the same era of Hollywood prime, both were renowned for their ‘divine’ beauty, and both were loved by many while worshipped by more; “The Love Goddess” Rita Hayworth, and “The Blonde Bombshell” Marilyn Monroe.

Something About Lahoris

In my dictionary, “Lahori” is a term I use specifically for a certain class of drivers and pedestrians. The term originates from my extensive experiences and observations of the traffic in Lahore but is certainly not limited to the city in particular. I can spot a Lahori on the road in any corner of Pakistan. I can also find decent drivers in Lahore, so the term is not city-restricted. I will now endeavor to shed some light on the characteristics of a “Lahori”.

I can never forget my first night in the hostel. I cried a lot, my parents weren't here to drop me to NUST. I felt bewildered in this new place. I was excited for sure, and I sure wanted to be here! And now I can’t forget the last of my days at NUST. I saw you all leave.

I go into my bathroom and from the mirror I peek into the lights of the room in front of mine. That room once belonged to Azeema, my intelligent neighbour. Seeing those lights from my bathroom mirror in last 4 years made me learn your routine :P Now I look into those lights and know that someone else has taken your room, I have tears in my eyes :'(

Then Mahwish! The one who was with me through and through in academics :P
As soon as you left that room, a scary MS/PhD student has replaced you. Whenever I pass by or see her face anywhere in the cafes or corridors, I scream inside, how could this happen to me? How could I have such elderly fat ugly women as my neighbours with no fun in life :'(

Bullying in NUST

This article isn’t meant to disrespect anyone; I just want to express my general opinion towards the majority of seniors in NUST who think they own the place. An event of the past compelled me to pen my thoughts over this issue. So, me and my friends were merrily indulged in a healthy game of football, we were having fun and there seemed to be no sign of anger. Then one false move by a senior, with whom we were playing, sparked a fire that ended with us abandoning the ground. It was clearly the senior’s mistake and it wasn’t as if we were shouting at him but this guy obviously didn’t want to accept his mistakes in front of a freshie, so he started asserting the fact that he was four years older than us and this granted him absolute authority over what is right and wrong. Harsh words were uttered by him and seeing his mood and realizing the fact that he may bring his bigger buddies and create a scene, we decided to leave him alone.
